Hed Kandi - Twisted Disco 02.04

Having loved the latest Disco Heaven, I bought an older Hed Kandi album of their Twisted Disco variety, billed as the darker side of House.

The album is full of extended mixes, which is not always a good thing when you consider some track take 2 minutes to get going. There are a few very good tracks on it, and some very disappointing ones.

The first disc stats off promising with The Visitor’s version of Our Lips are Sealed, a cover of the Go Gos’ classic with a contemporary dance backing. The album also contains Fatboy Slim’s mix of Comfortably Numb by the Scissor Sisters, plus a Scissor Sisters’ mix of More Lemonade by Bucci Bag, a track I was not familiar with but the Scissor Sisters influence was obvious. Other strong tracks include Sometimes by Les Rhythmes Digitales; Goldfrapp’s Strict Machine, I Like It by Narcotic Thrust and Loose Cannons’ Superstars.

There are interesting efforts from Richard X featuring Javine, David Guetta and Bonnie Bailey also.

The weakest offering is Thick Dick’s Orgasm, which is mainly heavy breathing onto a backing track *yawn* and some ‘filler’ tracks that you barely notice in the background.
