In America

I had heard good things about this Irish immigrant drama set in 1980s New York, but didn't no much else about it. Over time we discover that the family lost a son and are trying to come to terms with it as they start afresh in New York. The two girls in the family befriend a man with AIDS in the building whilst the parents come to terms with a pregnancy that will produce a sick baby. If you are recently bereaved then this is not the film for you. It is very moving, particularly at the end, but overall it does show that life goes on after death, though it may be a long and painful process.

7/10
