Down With Love
A harmless rom-com with a minute Renee Zellweger and a skinny Ewan McGregor as the leads. Whilst the story is not particularly original (How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days is on a similar line), the 1962 setting, the fabulous costumes and set offer something different. There are a few rather desperate attempts at a comedic sequence with split screens which made me squirm.
Although it is supposed to be a comedy (I think) I don't recall laughing, that is not to say I didn't enjoy it as it was an easy to watch movie and I wasn't clock watching or fidgeting. Barbara Novak (Zellweger) is an author new to New York who has written a book called 'Down With Love' about how women should become more independent from men and reassert themselves in the workplace, she annoys magazine writer Catcher Block, who vows to make her fall in love with him so he can expose her as get his women back. This doesn't work out quite the way you expect, but there is nothing overly showcasing about it.
