Collateral

I watched this unusual action thriller last night. Collateral stars Tom Cruise as bad guy Vincent, who persuades innocent cabbie Max (Jamie Foxx) to ferry him around LA all night whilst he gets signatures for a real estate deal. However Vincent is not what he seems as Max finds out when a body falls out of a window onto his cab. Vincent then holds Max hostage and forces him to drive around LA whilst he continues his list of killings.

Jamie Foxx was the star of the film for me as the scared cabbie without the guts to live out his dreams, he got far more screen time than official leading man Cruise. There is a good reason why Foxx has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this role.

The film is slow to start and slightly different from your conventional action thriller, at least until the end. The film is heavy on dialogue between the two male leads, with Jada Pinkett Smith in a supporting role. It is a bit dark but generally very watchable.
