Lost in Translation

I was sceptical about this highly acclaimed film directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Bill Murray as has-been film star Bob Harris, doing whiskey commercials in Tokyo and Scarlett Johansson as Charlotte, a young wife stuck in the same hotel who he hooks up with.

The film doesn't have much happening, it is not action packed, nor is it heavy on dialogue, most of the story is told in the unsaid. It is as much about the journey in the relationship between Charlotte and Bob and what they do to kill time stuck in a strange city where they don't speak the language. The film is quite dark, very quirky and highly observational. It may not always be politically correct in the way in which it pokes fun at the Japanese.

Highly recommended 8/10.
