Mystic River

I have just watched this on DVD from Love Film and it was fabulous! It is written and produced by Clint Eastwood, who seems to have established himself as a director of some quality films. The lead actors - Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins - make up a dream cast as three old school friends tied by the memory of Dave's (Tim Robbins) abduction as a child. Although he escaped, the mental scarring is visible and the friendships drifted apart in adulthood. Then one day Jimmy's (Sean Penn) daughter is found dead, this is the same night that Dave come home to his wife covered in blood after attacking a mugger. Police officer Sean (Kevin Bacon) is investigating, this is hampered by a local unofficial investigation in this Irish community.

There is no clear perpetrator in this murder film, and the character's and their relationships is as integral (if not more so) to the film that discovering the murderer.

With a supporting cast of Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden and Laura Linney, the combination of quality Oscar winning acting, a tight script and superb direction means that this film will become a classic.
